There are 3 Physical Education Standards that guide and assess a students learning at Coyote Ridge.
1. Demonstrate skills and applies concepts.
2. Participates in regular physical activity and demonstrates components of health - related fitness.
3. Demonstrates safe, responsible behavior and positive social interaction.
Standard I. "Physical Skill Development"
Through out the year students use a variety of assessments including themselves, peers, and even video to develop their psychomotor skills. These informal assessments are used only as instructional tools and not factored into a grade.
Fifteen skill themes are self assessed with teacher supervision
as students demonstrate their ability by choosing their strengths and identifying skills they can improve in.

Standard II. "Knowledge of Health"
Students participation is represented from their cognitive understanding of what is needed to live healthy active lifestyles.
A written quiz that covers health and fitness components is given throughout the year to determine the students understanding.
Addtionally extra credit activity logs are available for students to show participation in regular physical activity.

Standard III. "Character Education"
Each day students are taught character traits which lead to safe and responsible behavior that is positive within the class and beyond the school.
In the event a student makes a mistake in behavior they are encouraged to apologize and continue on with the activity.
Only in the event if the student is not willing to apologize will their behavior affect their grade.
A timeout slip will be filled out by the student to gain a better understanding of their mistake and the focus is how they can react next time.
This time out slip is also sent home with the student that day.
For each standard a 4 point rubric is used to determine the level of proficiency a student can demonstrate.
4 = Exceeds the standard
3 = Meets the standard
2 = Progressing toward the standard
1 = Begining stages of the standard

The Standards are then combined to determine a overall letter grade according to the rubric below:
H (High Achievement) = 11-12 points
HS (High Satisfactory) = 9-10 points
S (Satisfactory) = 7-8 points
I (Improving) = 5-6 points
N (Needing Improvement) = 3-4 points
U (Unacceptable) = 1-2 points
